Recently the Fraser Health Authority removed the position of spiritual care from all hospitals between Chilliwack and Surrey. There are no longer chaplains in these hospitals to provide spiritual guidance for the ill and vulnerable in their times of deep need.
We must speak out. As followers of Christ and believers in the biblical worldview we believe that physical and spiritual needs are interwoven and should not be separated. The position’s that have been eliminated need to be refilled. I ask you to speak up by reading the short informational attachment and editing the letter I’ve sent. Then mail it to your Member of the Legislative Assembly(MLA) and your Member of Parliament(MP).
We must speak up because the chaplains cannot. If they do, it’s most likely that their message will twisted and they will sound like their primary concern is their Job not the spiritual care of the patients. (This is what happened in the interior during a similar situation a few years ago.) Their jobs are important but, the holistic health of patients is what they’ve expressed as their primary concern.
Speak up because few of the people they’ve helped can. Many have passed away after receiving care.
The informational attachment was sent to me by a chaplain in the Vancouver Costal Heath Authority and is very reliable.
“By removing the spiritual care co-ordinator from the hospital, Fraser Health authorities are discounting the role of spiritual care in the overall health and wellness of a patient, not to mention the support given to families and staff.” – Arlene Kropp (Nov 11/09, AbbyNews)

The irony is that hospitals originated as physical actions by the spiritually faithful for the weak. The original spiritual values that brought about the first hospitals are being removed from the FHA’s hospitals very structure.
Thank you for your time commitment and action.
